A George III sterling silver teapot on stand, London 1790 by Henry Chawner (reg. 11th Nov 1786)
Of incurved elongated octagonal form, the straight panelled spout with incurved corners opposite a ebonised C scroll handle. The domed hinged lid surmounted by an oval knop finial. The stand of conforming shape raised on four reeded splay feet. Decorated throughout with bright cut engraved bands of rosettes and acanthus scrolls between courses of dots. Fully marked to undersides, lion passant only to lid and one component of finial, the other components unmarked.
