Our Asian Art department specialises in fine Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Tibetan and Southeast Asian works of art and antiques, as well as contemporary paintings and export ceramics. From blue and white, famille-verte and famille-rose ceramics to exquisite Japanese lacquerwares and woodblock prints, our carefully curated sales attract both collectors and institutions from around the globe.
For Chinese Works of Art we primarily focus on masterpieces from the Song, Yuan, Ming, and Qing Dynasties. Additionally, we feature significant works from earlier periods, including Neolithic jades, ancient bronzes, and figurative sculptures from the Han and Tang Dynasties. Our collection also embraces contemporary Chinese paintings, works on paper, and sculptures, alongside our regular offerings of classical paintings.
The Japanese Works of Art section at Chiswick Auctions highlights the exquisite craftsmanship of Japanese artisans, showcasing lacquer, cloisonné, ceramics, metalwork, and okimono. Our collection spans from the Edo and Meiji periods to the Taisho, Showa, and modern to contemporary eras. In addition to artworks, we offer an impressive selection of woodblock prints and paintings.
The department has recently sold notable collections, including exceptional Kangxi, Yongzheng and Qianlong period works of art from the esteemed collection of Mr. Basil Ionides and the Hon. Mrs. Nellie Ionides, the collection of Monique Mardellis, early metalworks from the Ben Essex collection and also a French private collection formed in Hong Kong during the 1960’s-1980’s.
