Chiswick Auctions is offering nine pieces of contemporary design that formed part of the recent Second Life exhibition held by luxury British interiors brand, Zoffany, and the Queen Elizabeth Scholarship Trust (QEST).
The Second Life exhibition showcased nine QEST scholars from a multitude of craft disciplines, including weaving, millinery and sculptural textile making. Each scholar was invited to repurpose Zoffany fabrics featured in the WOW!house showhouse event at Design Centre, Chelsea Harbour, in which Zoffany and designer Benedict Foley co-designed an immersive entrance hall space. The exemplary fabrics, woven using traditional techniques by one of Suffolk’s last remaining silk mills and dye houses, were given a ‘second life’ in a series of revelatory new designs.
A remarkable headboard by David and Alison Morrish tiled ‘Echoes of an Aristocratic Era’ is estimated at £1,000 - £2,000. It reimagines Sanderson’s Long Gallery Brocade with its shock of baroque style gold, turquoise and red embroidery made using sustainably sourced threads.
Milliner Virna Pasquinelli created this hat, titled 'Twisted Perspective'. Estimate £3,000 - £5,000.
Renowned milliner Virna Pasquinelli created 'Twisted Perspective', a remarkable avant-garde wire formed hat with embroidery, beadwork and cascading tassels. Estimated at £3,000 - £5,000, its complex form and decoration was created using both handcrafted and digital techniques.
Juliet Bailey and Franki Brewer produced a framed 'Tri-axle Panel' of three interlocking fabrics estimated at £300 - £500 while Elizabeth Ashdown created an elaborate country house style bellpull, titled ‘Ring for Champagne’, estimated at £500-800.
The items will be included in the Chiswick Auctions’ Design Modern Contemporary auction on December 12 with the proceeds donated to QEST and the artists.
