This year represented continued progress for the silver department at Chiswick Auctions, with London’s most diverse silver sale. Competition for pieces was steep for items priced between £300 to £3000, and the house achieved its best silver result to date for Her Majesty’s Vase in March, reaching £32,000 hammer. This fantastically provenanced and impressive Warwick vase gained considerable press interest from local and international publications, including the BBC in Cornwall as the Vase was awarded to Sir John Barker-Mill at the Plymouth, Devonport and Cornwall horse races and passed down through his family, who later found the base and vase separated.
Results for fine Burmese silver maintains the increased demand in this area alongside a rise in appreciation for Thai and Cambodian silver. As the only silver department globally with a dedicated specialist approach to non-European silver be that Iraqi, Ceylonese or Persian, we see the top results for such wares. Following on from this we are pleased to announce that the first Silver sale of 2023 will be the Stewart Collection of Indian and Burmese Silver.
