This week we are hosting two Specialist sales in addition to the General sale.
The Fine Wine & Spirits sale takes place on Tuesday 24th May and will be followed by the General sale.
The Printed Books and Manuscripts sale takes place on Wednesday 25th May. 

 

Fine Wine & Spirits will start at 11am on Tuesday 24th May. The sale is set to be the biggest of this kind for Chiswick Auctions with 1200 bottles of wine, nearly 100 bottles of Champagne, Cognac spanning 1858, 1914 and 1875, along side superb quality whisky lots.

The Printed Books and Manuscripts sale will take place on Wednesday 25th May, starting at 1pm.

The auction features an eclectic selection of lots including the Surrealist collection of the late John Lyle (Lots 101 - 219).

 

John Lyle (1932-2002) began life in the book trade in the 1950’s in London. By the mid 1960’s he had set up a company in Exeter specialising in surrealist books.  Lyle’s collection encompasses many signed items from notable figures in the surrealist movement, including: Andre Breton, Marcel Duchamp, Jacques Brunius, Rene Crevel, Philippe Soupault and Jacques Prevert.

 

This will be the first of two parts of the collection. Notable highlights include: Lot 102 – 13 editions of the Minotaure with a letter from Marcel Duchamp to Jacques Brunius (Estimate: £1,000 - £2,000) and lot 201 a presentation copy of La Pluie et le Beau Temps to Jacques Brunius from Jacques Prevert (Estimate: £400 - £600).

Last week, we played host to a very successful sale of Asian Art. It was the best sale the Auction House has ever seen in its 25 year history.


The sale achieved an 85% sold rate, with highlights of the sale including the John Marriott collection, 82 lots which together achieved over £84,000 including premium. Strong results were also achieved in the fields of blue and white porcelain from the Transitional Period blue and white porcelain, soapstone, and family photographic albums depicting images of China through the 1910s.
