Iran, 19th century.
Of crimson silk velvet, heavily worked in a variety of stitches in metallic thread with birds around a central medallion within scrolling foliage and stylised lobes, surrounded by a meandering floral border, the cartouche above the medallion worked in nasta’liq script with an undeciphered royal inscription, framed and glazed.
