AN ALBUM-LEAF PAINTING WITH A POEM.
Attributed to Sakai Hoitsu (1761 – 1828).
Ink and slight colour on paper, with wrestling toy monkeys, an inscribed haiku poem reads ‘Umi Yama to na no tachiwakaru sumai kana’ (the sea and a mountain, fighting like sumo wrestlers) or signed Toryu, with a seal Oson. 31.5 x 23cm.
There are fold-marks, a little rubbed and soiled, slightly wormed, laid-down on a mount.
