19th Century.

In the form of a daikon and a mouse (Daikoku mouse), naturalistically cast with thick leaves and split roots, a half-standing mouse forming the lid, a seal mark underside of the lid, Shokaken, 52cm long, 15cm H.

Daikon (white radish) and a mouse is a popular motif in the Japanese art and it is a metaphor of Daikoku nezumi, a messenger mouse of Daikoku, one of the seven lucky gods, which symbolize wealth and prosperity.
