A FINE AND RARE ITALIAN MAIOLICA ALBARELLO, probably 17th century, possibly Firenze (Florence) or Montelupo, of typical waisted cylindrical form, painted with continuous stylised foliate motifs in blue and turquoise-green, the rim, shoulder and foot with ochre bands,Êall on a pale blue ground,Ê25cm high FOOTNOTES: The decoration on this arabello is clearly influenced by Islamic designs. A 15th centuryÊexample with similar decoration is illustrated byÊGiuliana Gardelli, Italika: Maiolica italiana del Rinascimento (1999), cat.147.
