LEE, Harper (1926-2016). To Kill a Mockingbird. Philadelphia & New York: J. B. Lippincott, 1960. 8vo. Half title (a few stains). Original green cloth-backed brown paper boards, spine lettered in brown, dust-jacket designed by Shirley Smith (a few nicks, price-clipped). An early edition, printed in the same year as the first, of this classic American novel which won its author the Pulitzer Prize. The “issue points” of the present copy are: the verso of the title page does not state “First Edition” but instead has the letter “W” in its place; the upper wrapper of the jacket has “Pulitzer Prize Novel” in a white circle; the head of the jacket’s front turn-in has a review by Phyllis McGinley printed in green, with reviews by Vogue and Time Magazine below; the rear turn-in has reviews, from the top, by the Chicago Tribune, Kansas City Star, Shirley Ann Grau and Elizabeth Gray Vining; the lower wrapper has blurb in green and black, and is without the Truman Capote portrait of the author.
