Original green cloth lettered in black and ruled in blind (some slight localised staining, extremities lightly rubbed). Provenance: GEORGE MACDONALD FRASER (ex libris sticker). FIRST ENGLISH EDITION. Loosely-inserted is a one-page typed letter, signed, dated 21.10.95, from George MacDonald Fraser, ordering this copy from a bookseller. With 12 other books by Stephen Leacock including Arcadian Adventures with the Idle Rich (London, 1915), The Hohenzollerns in America and Other Impossibilities (London, 1919, 2 copies), Moonbeams from the Larger Lunacy (London, 1920), Nonsense Novels … Illustrated by John Kettelwell (London, 1921) and The Discovery of England (London, 1922), 9 of which have the ex-libris sticker of George MacDonald Fraser (1925-2008), Scottish author best-known for his “Flashman” novels. "Stephen Leacock was on his own. Literary lapses is the best one of all. My father read it to me when I was very young and I've been rereading it ever since and with increasing enjoyment. I bought George MacDonald Fraser's collection from Nicky Dunne in my favourite bookshop, Heywood Hill, in Curzon Street" (H.B.). (13)
