The front turn-in is SIGNED by Chopping (“Richard W. Chopping”) with a further inscription by him, “I wish I still looked like this”, referring to the front cover of the wrapper which bears a (printed) youthful self-portrait by Chopping. The artist is best-known for his dust-jacket designs for nine of Ian Fleming’s James Bond novels, starting with From Russian With Love in 1957. "A double connection here. I was at Eton with David Benedictus who didn't much enjoy being there. And, of course, Richard Chopping came to the height of his fame with those immortal covers for Ian Fleming and James Bond. I wish he had drawn my 'favourite uncle', Ernst Stavro Blofeld and his white pussy" (H.B.).
