“To the Admirers of the Noble Game of Cricket.” Fine large cotton or silk commemorative hanging, or ‘handkerchief’, printed in black and red, with central illustration of the England XI of 1847 after the watercolour by Nicholas “Felix” Wanostrocht, the ornamental borders with crossed bats in each corner, an illustration of a cricketer riding a bat (ie. the mammal) at the top, a view of a cricket match in a field at the bottom, with the rules of cricket in 4 cartouches at the top and bottom, and representations of cricket strokes in 6 cartouches at the sides (a few small holes in one corner), 700 x 850mm., framed and glazed, [?mid-19th-century].
