ROCKLEY WILSON, Evelyn (1879-1957). A 2-page autograph letter, signed, on paper headed “St Mary’s Lane, Winchester, February 25, 1945,” to George Hirst, stating, “... It is sad to think you are no longer on the Archive List, but no man has ever served a County so long! ... Let us hope that before long we shall meet again at a Cricket Match ...” Evelyn Rockley Wilson played cricket for Cambridge University, Yorkshire and England; George Hirst (1871-1954) played for Yorkshire and England. "A lovely dated letter from the amateur, Rockley Wilson, a spin bowler, who played one Test Match for England in Sydney in 1920/21, writing to George Hirst, very much the senior professional in the Yorkshire side when they Wilson began playing for the county. Charming in its way" (H.B.).
