MAILEY, Arthur (1886-1967).  A menu, printed in green, “The Cricket Writers’ Club. Dinner in honour of the Australian Team, held at The Public Schools Club, Piccadilly, London, W1, on Thursday, April 22nd, 1948. Chairman: E. W. Swanton,” with an ORIGINAL PEN-AND-INK SELF PORTRAIT of Arthur Mailey, signed; facsimile of the menu itself pasted onto the verso, 160 x 210mm., framed and glazed, 1948. With another menu, from the "S.S. Montrose", for the English Tour of the 16th Australian XI, 1926, with a small pencil portrait by Mailey on the verso. "Mailey loved to draw on dinner menus and was especially adept at self-cartoons in varying emotional degrees from deeply disgusted through sadness and seriousness to rounded contentment" (H.B.). (2)
