Chiswick Auctions

Fine Chinese Paintings 中国书画

Chiswick Auctions is the leading auction house for the sale of Fine Chinese Paintings and is the only saleroom in the UK to hold dedicated sales in this category. The November 2017 sale achieved an auction house record price of £267,600 incl. premium for a landscape handscroll by the internationally acclaimed artist, Xu Naigu, which was awarded the prestigious Asian Art in London Commendment Award. A landscape painting by Huang Binhong (£51,250) and a hanging scroll by Huang Daozhou (£52,500) were among the many highlights that performed well in the sale.

The inaugural May 2017 sale featured the sale of ten Classical paintings from a London private collection, which totalled over £65,000, and were sold alongside works by celebrated artists Qi Baishi, Ding Yanyong, Huang Zhou and Lo Ch’ing, in addition to Modern Chinese Paintings. Other recent successes in the field of Chinese paintings include the sale of the Buckman Collection (total sales £55,000), the Aldrick Collection (total sales £31,000) and Pearson Collection (total sales £24,156) all of which had a 100% sell-through rate.

The demand for Chinese paintings has seen tremendous growth in recent years and collectors are increasingly looking to source works with good provenance from the UK and mainland Europe. With Chiswick Auctions’ international reputation the biannual sales, held in May and November, are a draw for top collectors and dealers from China, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Japan and New York.
