Chiswick Auctions’ specialist 20th/21st Century department hosts two auctions a year, encompassing a wide spectrum of notable international artists. These auctions present opportunities to both buy and sell major works by renowned artists.
Our curated sales feature works from a variety of periods, showcasing strong examples of international artistic genres and movements. From the French post-impressionist works of Gustave Loiseau to the Australian impressionist painter Frederick McCubbin, our 20th/21st Century auctions are diverse both geographically and stylistically. Past sales have achieved prominent prices for works by canonical artists such as Edouard Vuillard, Paul Signac, Claude Venard, and Henri Lebasque.
Our sales also bring to market artworks from further afield. Our most recent summer sale featured a strong collection of Aboriginal art, many of which performed exceptionally well against their estimates.
The strength of our offerings is exemplified by the sale of notable works on paper by two of the most significant Austrian artists of the 20th Century, Gustav Klimt and Egon Schiele. Schiele’s well-documented 1908 pencil sketch of his sister, Melanie Schiele Schuster, sold for £81,250, including buyer’s premium. Similarly, blue-chip American names such as Jean-Michel Basquiat and Andy Warhol have also featured in our auctions.
Our 20th/21st Century sales offer strong examples from both centuries. Contemporary artists like Mr Brainwash and Shepard Fairey also have a place within these auctions.
We are always open for consignments for our biannual auctions. For further information, please contact a member of our team below.
