Each finely potted, the steep sides rising to a slightly flared rim, decorated to the exterior with two five-clawed dragons contesting a flaming pearl above cresting waves, both with underglaze-blue six-character Guangxu marks to bases, with wood stands,

A comparable pair are illustrated in S. Marchant & Son, Exhibition of Qing Mark and Period Monochromes and Enamelled Wares, 1981, no.45. A similar cup from the Tongzhi period is housed in the Sir Percival David Collection in the British Museum, acc. no. PDF B.711, and a pair of Tongzhi-period cups are on display at the Victoria & Albert Museum, acc. no. 803-1883, illustrated in Rose Kerr, Chinese Ceramics: Porcelain of the Qing Dynasty, 1644-1911, V&A, 1998, No.110.
