THREE IRAQI SILVER AND NIELLO DRESSING TABLE BOXES WITH RIVER SCENES
Sabean-Mandean community in Omara, Iraq, circa 1940 - 1950
Comprising two lidded boxes with sloping legs, the third without legs and resting on a flat, plain base, each of typical cylindrical shape surmounted by a gently convex pull-off lid, the lid and sides of each box featuring typical Iraqi nielloed decoration including river vessels like dhow sailing boats and rounded gufa boats, desert vegetation like palm trees and animals like camels, and renowned architectural landmarks like Taq Kasra (Ruins of Ctesiphon), all unmarked, the largest 8cm diam. and the smallest 3.3cm diam.
