A George V sterling silver novelty cigarette box, London 1910 by Elkington and Co
Modelled as a 17th century oak coffer, of rectangular form upon four stile feet, moulded as panelling and carved lunettes with stylised serpents in base. The lid engraved with two crests of firstly a dove resting its claw upon a bezant, and secondly an eagle rising holding in the beak an ear of wheat, each claw upon a hurt. Wooden interior. The lid bezel stamped RD580782. Fully marked to reverse.
