A LARGE SAFAVID-STYLE TINNED COPPER SAMOVAR
Kashmir, Northern India, or Bukhara, Central Asia, dated 1328 AH (1910 AD)

Of typical bulbous shape, resting on an inverted conical base, surmounted by a hemispherical hinged lid opening in full on one side and with a smaller entry point at the top below the finial, with a sinuous S-shaped handle and curved spout on each side, the body decorated with typical motifs inspired by Safavid metalwork production including scrolling vegetal trellis, floral bands with rosettes and lotus stems, palmettes, and large calligraphic friezes, the spout engraved with the date 1328 AH (1910 AD), 21cm diam. and 54cm high.
