A George I Britannia standard silver ‘bullet’ teapot, London 1724 by Humphrey Payne (free. 1st Nov 1701)

of rounded form upon a moulded foot, the panelled spout opposite a fruit wood handle pinned to tubular sockets, the hinged lid of conforming shape surmounted by a detachable wooden knop finial. Fully marked underneath and the lid unmarked, maker's mark Grimwade 2118.

Humphrey Payne (1679/80-1751) who registered a mark 3^rd Dec 1701, a consistent holloware maker apprenticed to Thomas Parr from being turned over from Roger Grange. Coincidentally, Humphrey Payne died the same day as Paul De Lamerie, with obituary appearing alongside De Lamerie’s claiming he “having acquired a handsome fortune but quitted trade to his son a few Months ago”.
