Possibly Song Dynasty

Of shallow form with everted metal-mounted rim, carved through dark-brown lacquer with a three-clawed dragon flying over crashing waves and amongst swirling clouds to the centre, the cavetto decorated with lotus flowers issuing from undulating leafy stems,

14.5cm diameter

A similar dish, although lacking the incised decoration, was included in the exhibition 'The Colors and Forms of Song and Yuan China, featuring Lacquerwares, Ceramics and Metalwares', Nezu Institute of Fine Arts, Tokyo, 2004, cat. no. 16. A dish similar to this was sold at Christie’s London, 9th June 1975, lot 141.
