the rounded oval body upon a domed oval foot, the flared rim with shaped elements with a plain C scroll handle. Fully marked underneath and with scratch weight 7=4.

Length – 15 cm / 5.9 inches

Weight – 233 grams / 7.49 ozt

The son of John Eckfourd I, goldsmith of London was apprenticed to John Fawdrey on the 24th Jan 1712 but turned over to his father on February 14th of the same year and then again on the 29th June 1714 to Phillip Rollos. Free 4th July 1723 he registered marks in both standards on the 23rd June 1725 at Three Tun Court, Red Cross Street. He was still alive in 1753.

A pair of sauceboats of this form, 15 cm in length, marked for 1733 by Eckfourd was sold Sotheby’s London, 28th April 2015, Lot 206 (£2,000 incl. premium).
