A Queen Anne Britannia standard silver right angle coffee pot, London 1713 by Simon Pantin I (reg. 23rd June 1701)

Of conical ‘lighthouse’ form, with a hinged domed lid surmounted by a compressed knop finial. The panelled spout at a right angle to the wooden scroll handle. The front engraved with a contemporaneous impaled coast of arms reserved within a Baroque style foliate scroll cartouche. Fully marked to the handle rim, makers mark also underneath, lion’s head erased to lid front.

Weight – 564 grams / 18.13 ozt

The arms are for Mainwaring quartering Kevelioc (Earl of Chester), impaling Cotton

For Sir Henry Mainwaring, 1st Bt. (b. 1782) who married Sopha Cotton (c.1777-1838) on the 29th Dec 1803.

SIr Henry was born at Peover Hall, Over Peover, Cheshire, the son of Thomas Mainwaring (1726-1798). Sophia Cotton, daughter of Sir Robert Salusbury Cotton, 5th Bt. (c.1739-1809) and Frances Stapleton (c.1746-1825).
