A George III Old Sheffield Silver Plate tea caddy, Sheffield circa 1780 by J. Younge and Co

Of oval form with a flat hinged lid raised by a swing loop ring pull. Beaded rims with flat chased decoration of geometric bands, swirling firms to the lid and a ribbin tied shield shape cartouche to the front engraved with a crest of a weasel or ermine sitting on a stump of a tree, lined and collared, in the paw a mirror. Unmarked.

Length – 12.4 cm / 4.9 inches

The crest is probably for Martin

A tea caddy of the same form with differing decoration is put down to Younge and Co, dated 1779 in Bradbury, F., Old Sheffield Plate, (1912), page 353
