Earl of Upper Ossory - A pair George II sterling silver poultry meat dishes, London 1759 by George Methuen (reg. 3rd Aug 1743)

Each of shaped oval form with cavetto edges and gadrooned rims. The edges engraved with a coat of arms between supports all surmounted by an Earl’s coronet, above the motto Fortis Sub Forte Fatiscet. Engraved to the reverse No 1 14” 9 ½ and No 3 24”19. Each fully marked to the reverse, No 3 with a double maker's mark. (2)

The arms are for Fitzpatrick, as borne by the Earl of upper Ossory

For John Fitzpatrick, 2nd Earl of Upper Ossory (1745-1818), son of John Fitzpatrick, 2nd Baron Gowran later 1st Earl of Upper Ossory (1719-1758), who was created Earl of Upper Ossory in the Peerage of Ireland on the 5th October 1751. In 1794, he was created Baron Upper Ossory, of Ampthill in the County of Bedford, in the Peerage of Great Britain. In 1767 he was elected to the House of Commons for Bedfordshire, a seat he held until 1794.
