A George II sterling silver salver, London 1748 by John Robertson II (reg. 3rd July 1739), also later stamped for Thomas Heming (Grimwade 3828)

Diameter – 30 cm / 11.8 inches

Please see the following lot for a salver of 1744 by Robert Abercromby with the same border and feet.

A waiter of 1754 by the same maker was sold (part lot) Bonham’s Knightsbridge, 19 Dec 2017, Lot 390

A waiter of the same year and maker with the same castings and feet, sold Bonham’s Knowle, 5 April 2006, lot 462

These feet were achieved by casting two identical halves that were then seemed together, with additional chasing to the acanthus section.

The presence of this many similar casting on salvers marked for different sponsors infers a central supplier to the London trade. The presence of Hemming’s mark from the 1770’s implies that this piece was later retailed Heming who was the Royal supplier.
