A pair of early George III sterling silver tea caddies, London 1763 by Samuel Taylor (reg. 3rd May 1744)

Each of inverted baluster form upon cast and applied open work feet of rococo C scroll and flower heads below a chased fish scale pattern. The domed pull off lids with gadrooned rim surmounted by a cast flower finial. The bodies with embossed decoration of twisting panels enclosing floral sprays, the front forming an asymmetrical C scroll cartouche engraved with initials MPA in cursive script flourished. The lids similarly embossed. Each fully marked underneath, one lid marked to the interior with lion passant and maker’s mark, the other lid marked with lion passant only. (2)
