TWO ALBUM PAGE GRISAILLE FLORAL STUDIES
Qajar Iran, dated 1258 AH (1842 AD) and 1279 AH (1862 AD), signed Lotf 'Ali

Pencil and ink on paper, comprising two floral studies in vertical format, the first with a foliate rose stem with several buds and a dotted moth against a plain cream white ground, signed in black ink Lotf 'Ali and dated 1258 AH on the lower left, set within polychrome and gold rules and mounted on an eau de nil blue album card, 30cm x 20cm including the mount; and the latter similar, but larger, depicting a bird catching a moth whilst perched on the central branch of a rose bush, signed by the same artist and dated 1279 AH on the lower right, set within gold and white rules and mounted on a similar eau de nil blue album card, possibly once part of the same muraqqa' of the previous painting, 30.5cm x 20cm including the mount.
