An early Victorian sterling silver three bottle cruet, London 1839 by Richard Sibley II (reg. 15th mark 1837)

In the George II style, the trefoil shaped stand raised on three shell feet with scroll sides, the central carrying handle with twin acanthus scroll. Fitted with three cut clear glass bottles, a pepper / spice caster with ornately pierced detachable lid, and an oil and a vinegar bottle. The base engraved with a crest of issuing from a ducal coronet a lion’s head per pale crenellée Arg and Gu. Fully marked underneath, part-marks to carrying handle and caster lid, lion passant to retaining nut, one bottle mount with obscured marks for London by ?B, the other unmarked. Stamped underneath “Makepeace London”.
