A George III silver cream pail, London circa 1760 by Charles Clark (first reg. 12th Sep 1758)
Of cylindrical form with a gadrooned rim, an upright side handle formed as a butter churn. The body with chased and pierced decoration of a bucolic scene of a cottage with smoke coming from its chimney and a tun outside, a windmill, a recumbent cow, a magpie, all with trees and trellises and a vacant C scroll cartouche. Fitted with a later removable blue glass liner. Makers mark only underneath.
