A LARGE BURMESE 'PARROT' BETEL-BOX AND COVER

19th / 20th Century

Of cylindrical form, decorated using the yun technique in black and yellow on a red ground, the cover with bands of stylised flowerheads encircling a central circular medallion enclosing a parrot and an inscription, the sides with similar decorations of stylised flowerheads enclosed by slender concentric bands, the base with an inscribed raised circular panel, the interior with two brownish-red lacquer trays, each with an inscribed black-lacquer panel to the base,
