A CHINESE OVAL 'AUTUMN’ MEAT DISH. Qing Dynasty, Qianlong period. Painted in sepia and en grisaille enamels with a group of five playful putti feasting on ripe grapes within an acanthus border, the rim with floral garlands, 31.8cm long. This design is based on an graving by Francesco Bartolzzi (1727 – 1815) of a series of the Four Seasons by Giovanni Battista Cipriani (1727 – 1785). For two plates, one depicting the Autumn scene, and one the Summer scene, see Hervouët, La porcelaine des Compagnies des Indes à décor occidental, 1986, p 320.
