A CHINESE BLUE AND WHITE ‘JIANG ZIYA’ DISH. Qing Dynasty, Kangxi period. Painted with the scene of Jiang Ziya fishing in a river and King Wen arriving to visit him with his retinue, the rim with floral sprays, 28cm diameter. Jiang Ziya was a military strategist of the Shang Dynasty. He retreated to the country after becoming disillusioned with his cruel ruler, waiting for a more worthy monarch to serve. King Wen, of the Zhou Dynasty, hoping to use the old man’s experience found him by a river fishing without a hook.
