A PAIR OF QAJAR MURAQQA’ ALBUM PAGES WITH STUDIES OF GOL-O-BOLBOL MOTIFS

Opaque pigments, ink, pencil and white wash on laid paper, the pair of vertical compositions depicting the typical Persian topos of the loving nightingale and the beloved rose (gol-o-bolbol), set within concentric decorative painted frames with stylised light blue floral trellis, mounted on later stained cardboard album borders, the verso of each composition bearing two old stickers with long strips of inventory numbers in sepia ink, especially nos. 1168 / 16191 M and 1169 / 16181 N, each 35cm x 23.8cm.
