A LARGE GILT AND LACQUERED KASHMIRI WOODEN QUR'AN STAND
Kashmir, Northern India, late 19th - early 20th century
Of rectangular shape, with folding arms with two interlocking openwork carved wooden panels and thin cusped legs, the upper rectangular sections with stylised vegetal sprays and floral roundels painted in polychromes and gilt on a white background, the lower sections repeating the same design as above on either red or white grounds, the edges embellished with a band of dense gold rosette trellis, 65.5cm x 33cm when folded.
