A MAGHRIBI QUR'AN SECTION: SURA AN-NISA (4), V. 2 TO SURA AL-AN'AM (6), V. 67
North Africa or al-Andalus, 13th century
Arabic manuscript on vellum, 51ff. plus six fly leaves, each page with 11II. of sepia ink maghribi script, diacritic marks in red and blue, verse markers in gold roundels, the sura heading (Sura al-An'am, 6) in gold Kufic script with strapwork starburst extending into the margin, set in a later flapped brown morocco binding, 19.6cm x 17.5cm.
A similar section of a 13th-century maghribi Qur'an with 39ff., including Sura al-Baqarah (2; vv. 85 - 87 and 96 - 102) and Sura al-Imran (3; vv. 3 - 195), was successfully sold at Christie's London last April (1 April 2021, lot 8).
