Hanoverian pattern, virginal. Each marked EM in a rectangular punch only. (2)

Edmond or Edmund Milne first advertised in the Pennsylvania Gazette, December 22, 1757, where he announces that after having worked for Charles J. Dutens Jewelry Shop, next to the Indian King on Market Street, for the past two years, he now succeeds him running his own shop independently as a medallist and jeweler.

“EDMOND MILNE, Goldsmith and Jeweller. At the Sign of the Crown and three Pearls, next door to the corner of Market street in Second Street, begs leave to inform the Public, that he has just imported in the last vessels from London, an elegant Assortment of Goldsmiths and Jewellry ware.” December 15, 1763, Pennsylvania Journal where lists some two hundred different items. These include knee, shoe stock buckles of silver, gilt and pinchbeck, some set with garnets; others with paste stones; silver and steel watch chains: and among the articles for feminine adornment,

He is perhaps most noted for supplying General George Washington with twelve Camp cups in 1777.

A set of eight button with a different mark for Milne was so sold The Collection Of Roy And Ruth Nutt: Highly Important American Silver, Sotheby’s New York, 24 Jan 2015, Lot 552 ($4,063 including prem).
