A COLLECTION OF TWENTY-ONE CHINESE RELIGIOUS CHARMS. Late Qing Dynasty. Printed on paper, various sizes. (8) Provenance: from the collection of Paul Pelliot (1878 – 1945); the Philosophical Research Society. Ephemera of this type from the late Qing rarely survives and it is therefore ethnographically significant likely having been collected on one of Pelliot’s expeditions to China in the early 20th Century. Pelliot was most famous for his role in the discovery of texts and manuscripts at Dunhuang. For a comparative ephemera from circa 10th century see Caves of the Thousand Buddhas: Chinese Art from the Silk Route p. 83, cat no 64. 清晚期 宗教符咒八張,內含《九宮八卦圖》 來源:哲学研究学会保罗·佩里奥(1878 - 1945)藏。 *For a full condition report, please contact the department.* *请您联系我们索取品项报告。*
