An early to mid-19th century American silver ewer, Baltimore, Maryland circa 1840 by Samuel Kirk and Co

of ovoid form with a tall neck leading to a double C scroll handle with an acanthus leaf terminal, all upon a spreading circular foot. The body with embossed decoration in the ‘Maryland’ style of chinoiserie style houses and other buildings including a man in a rowing boat as well as a figure crossing a bridge with another fishing with a dog on the riverbank, this leading onto a colonial type house, all reserved with foliate scrolls and foliage against a matted ground. A basket of flowers upon a Chinese type table and three doves attending a fountain to the upper section to the upper section above a vacant cartouche. The neck with flat chased acanthus leaves, the base with embossed swirling acanthus leaves with a chased rocaille edge. Marked to the foot SK and 11 OZ (used 1828-46).
