A late 18th century Norwegian silver peg tankard (drikkekanne), Trømso dated 1797 by Theodorius/Tøres Tiller (b.c. 1766 – 1838, active from 1793)

Of cylindrical form upon three ball and claw feet, the C scroll handle with an applied open work foliate junction. The hinged domed lid surmounted by a thumbpiece formed as lion rampant. The body with embossed stylised leaves, the lid with chased decoration of foliate scrolls and tulips. The lid centre set with a silver gilt coin of a 1795 Mexico Spanish Colony 8 Reales for Charles IIII. The lid engraved W 75 ½ and various names. The side later engraved with a 19th century British crest of leopard passant holding in the dexter paw a trefoil slipped. Four pegs to the gilt interior. Marked underneath with makers mark TT (Tandberg 1706).

Tiller apprenticeship to Johan Peter Rust from the 27th August 1781, to the same day in 1787. Entered guild as master on the 14th February 1793, after showing he masterpiece, a coffee pot.
