A cased late 18th century Danish silver tea caddy set, Copenhagen 1777 by Christian Hosøe (1739-1812, active from 1773)

Comprising a pair of tea caddies and a sugar box, housed within a mahogany caddy with unmarked silver furniture; hinge plates, escutcheon, knop to spoon drawer, securing pin, and opposable carrying handle. The tea caddies of cuboidal form with lift off lid with a cylindrical lift off cap with flat chased decoration of a rosette. The sugar box similarly formed with a detachable organic finial with a leafy calyx. Each marked underneath with town mark, month mark for 2 August to 23 September, assayer Frederik Fabritius (active 1787 – 1823) and makers mark CH over 77.

Caddy length – 22.4 cm / 8.85 inches

Weighable silver – 798 grams / 25.66 ozt
