A mid to late - 18th century Portuguese silver salver, Porto circa 1770 possibly by Manuel de Oliveira
Don José I. Of shaped circular form with a shaped cavetto edge with rocaille acanthus leaves and shells rim with lattice work reserves. Raised upon three bracket feet with flat chased foliage. The field edge with flat chased decoration of rocaille and C scrolls reserved with matting, the centre with an engraved circular cartouche of leaves. Marked with a variant town mark of Domingos de Sousa (Vidal 66), makers mark an incuse S and assay scrape to the field within the decoration

This mark is unrecorded in Vidal, the most similar mark for the time period is Vidal. 1592, for Manuel de Oliveira who registered a mark of an encameo S in 1783.
