A mid-20^th century Iraqi silver, niello, filigree and gold mounted compact, Basra circa 1940

Of circular form with a filigree lid centred with an applied gold shield shaped cartouche engraved with initials JS in cypher. The reverse with a niello scene of a dhow sailing boat with two palm trees. The interior with a hinged lid with a niello scene of camels, with a mirror inside. The underside signed Karem.
