A late 19th century French 950 standard silver and enamel jardinière, Paris circa 1890 by Froment-Meurice (ceased 1913)

Of rectangular form with inverted ogee form upon four bracket feet, the sides with incised and polychrome guilloche enamel decoration of ribbon tied carnations, the base edger with enameled trailing Sweet Williams. Gilt interior. Marked underneath and standard mark to the side, also stamped FROMENT MAURICE.

Mark registered at 6 Rue du Martroy on the 4^th June 1833, mark struck through 8^th Nov 1853 Froment-Meurice, among the most renowned silversmiths of mid-nineteenth century Paris, was a historicist whose work embraced medieval, Renaissance, and Islamic styles, which he charged with an abundance of sculptural ornament. His son Émile Froment-Meurice (1837–1913) carried on the family atelier until 1913.
