A LARGE CHINESE FAMILLE ROSE 'BAJIXIANG' CHARGER. Qing Dynasty, 1860-1890. The interior centred with a medallion enclosing a central floret wreathed by floral blooms borne on interlaced foliate stems, the cavetto decorated in pastel tones of the famille-rose palette with the Bajixiang, each emblem adorned with billowing ribbons and floral sprays, four character cui xiu gong zhi mark, 48cm diameter. The Chuxiugong (Palace of Gathering Elegance) is one of the six Western palaces in the Forbidden City, and chief residence of the Empress Dowager Cixi (1835 – 1908) between 1856 and 1885. Cixi had the palace lavishly refurbished on her 50th birthday in 1884.  The ceramic wares made for the Chuxiugong were often large and monumental.
