A Louis XVI late 18th century French silver coffee and chocolate pot, Paris 1777 by Jacques-Charles Mongenot (reg. 1775)
of blauster ‘marabout’ form with a short fluted spout opposite a later wooden handle pinned to tubular sockets. The hinged domed lid surmounted by a compressed knop finial, raised by a scroll thumbpiece, the removable hinge pin attached via a chain to the finial. Later engraved to each side with a coronet. Fully marked underneath and to lid with charge and discharge mark of Jean Baptise Fouache (active 1774-81) for 959 standard, date letter O (reg. 13th Aug 1777) and maker’s mark JCM.
