A LARGE JAPANESE SATSUMA VASE ATTRIBUTED TO MAKUZU KOZAN (1842 – 1916)

Meiji period

With a thickly potted, bulbous body painted in enamels and gilt with five scaly dragons writhing among wisps of fire between a band of large lappets around the tapered foot, decorated with precious objects and a border of meaty petals encircling the waisted neck, each containing pairs of alternating dragons and phoenixes and extending to the shoulder
