A PORTRAIT OF A RULER North India, late 19th century  Opaque pigments heightened with silver and gold on paper, in a palace interior the heavily bejewelled ruler seated on a silver throne, portrayed with a halo and holding a pearl and emerald-encrusted sarpech (turban ornament), the attendant in front of him holding his hands tight together as a sign of respect and the three attendants behind him with a fly-whisk, a peacock's feather fan and a gilt baton, within black, blue, white and ochre yellow rules, 27.2cm x 21.3cm.
